An Expensive Christmas

No, not because we spent a lot on presents for a certain toddler (which we did). No, our Christmas had a much more dangerous aspect.

Christmas day, and Kim is cooking dinner for us. She's using every inch of her counters, and all her appliances. She gets done washing her food processor, and needs to get it out of the sink. She places the top (with the tube where food goes in) in a Pyrex 9 x 13 pan on the stove which she believes is cool.

Nope. It's hot. Really hot. So hot, that it melts the top of her food processor.

So, I come in, and see if I can scrape the plastic out of the Pyrex pan. So, I put it on the stove, on some heat, and try to scrape the melted glass out of it. Some comes off, but it's obvious it's ruined. So, I give, up, and push it to the back of the stove.

BOOM!

The glass pan explodes into pieces, big and small. Most stay on the oven, some fall onto the floor. It's amazing, but neither of us are cut or burned. Someone was watching out for us, as we were both barefoot, and Charlie was taking a nap.

However, the floor was not as lucky. We have berber carpet in the kitchen, and the hot Pyrex melts the carpet where it landed.

I didn't do it. This is melted carpet, not puppy piddle.

So, now we have to replace the flooring in the kitchen. So, it's off to Lowes, and a purchase of Pergo Laminate. Hopefully, it won't be that hard to install, and should give the house a bit more buyer appeal. However, it's just another project I didn't need.

Holy Crap! This could happen!

Could this be in my future?
I got the call today that they want to fly me to Orlando for a third interview.
I fly down 2nd week of January. This is getting serious. I may be getting a job at Disney. Anyone who truly knows me knows that this is my dream job opportunity.

WOW!

Busted At Christmas

Be on the lookout for the suspect pictured above. His innocent looks do not convey the true sinister crimes he's committed, including
  • Snack grabbing

  • Light turning off and on

  • Ornament touching

  • Refridgerator opening

  • Present messing with

If you see this suspect, report him immediately to naughtylist@santa.com

Could this be my new office?

I had my second interview with Disney on Friday. It seemed to go good, although you can never tell on a phone interview. The job sounds great, and the two managers I interviewed with were both very nice, and knew the job very well. It lasted about 40 minutes, and although I was taking care of a sick Charlie during the interview, they were both understanding.

Now, I have to wait to see if they are going to fly me down for an in-person interview. I'm supposed to hear something in about a week. Here's hoping!

Rosebud Redux

When I was 11, I got a Suzuki minibike. I rode that thing all over Tacoma, WA and then when we moved, I was all over Askov, MN. I was Evel Knievel, jumping every dirt mound out there.

I guess it's seeing Charlie discover his favorite toys which is making me think back about my favorite stuff.

Amazing that you can find anything on the internet.

Man, they're quick!

They are building our new house quickly.

This is what it looked like on the weekend.

Today, it's framed, and the interior walls are going up.

Wow In A Bottle

As in, "Wow, I can't believe I paid $1.39 for something that tastes like orange flavored chalk dust and Metamucil!"

If you see it on the shelves of your favorite convenience store, pass!

Charlie and Santa - Old Friends

Saturday, Charlie had breakfast with Santa Claus. Santa was kind enough to take time out of his busy schedule to come to Ferrellgas for breakfast. When Santa walked in the room, Charlie saw him and immediately ran over and grabbed hugged his leg.

Then, it came time for presents.

I'm sure Charlie is going to do fine this Christmas. I've got a sneaky suspicion Santa's got some cool toys for him.

Holiday Stress

This holiday season seems to be a bit more stressful than others. I made it through the stress of writing, directing and playing piano in "Capital Campaign, The Musical", a 20 minute musical I did for the kickoff meeting for our new building fund at church. It went over well, and I'm glad it's over.

Now, I only have the stress of
  • Building a new house - picking out all the colors, appliances, carpets, tile, stone, etc.
  • Selling our old house - Do I sell with a realtor and pay $9,000 commission or do For Sale By Owner and save that, but not have any help selling?
  • Disney Interview - The above could be for naught if I do well on the interview Thursday. Could we be moving to Florida (FYI, I already turned down a Florida job this year).
  • Work Stress - How do you do your job effectively when the chips are stacked against you?
Maybe Charlie has it right. When you get frustrated, scream loudly until someone comes and helps you!

UPDATE: My interview has been rescheduled for Monday. Drats, was wanting to get this thing going!

UPDATE #2: My interview has been rescheduled for next Friday. Are they trying to tell me something?
