A Seinfeld Moment

Today, I had a phone conversation that was truly part of a Seinfeld episode. As you might know, Orlando is the king of the toll road. All the bypass highways are toll roads. So, Kim and I have “Sunpass” transponders in our cars, which automatically pay our tolls, so we don’t have to stop, or even slow down. I have the Sunpass’ on auto replenishment, so that when the prepaid balance drops below a certain level, they automatically debit my checking account for another $25.00.

Last week, I changed banks (a long story in itself), so I went online to change the debit card information I had on the auto replenishment. Over the past 3 days, each time Kim has gone through a Sunpass lane, the transponder beeped indicating we had no money in the account. I went online, and they credit card number had reverted back to the cancelled card. So, I changed it again, got the confirmation that it was done, and even called Sunpass to ask them why this happened. They assured me everything was ok.

Today, Kim gets another 3 beep warning while going through the toll booth. I called Sunpass again, and discussed the issue. This is where it gets interesting. This is the juxt of the conversation:

Sunpass:Just because you get a confirmation that your credit card went through, doesn’t mean it actually happened!”

Me:Isn’t that the definition of confirmation? Confirming that something took
place?”

Sunpass: “Sir, I know what a confirmation is.”

Me: “Apparently, you don’t, or my wife would not have gotten a violation this
morning!”

I felt like Jerry when he was reserving a car.

Hectic Hectic Hectic!

The last couple of weeks have been really busy. They included a flight home to pack up the house and load it all in a moving truck; closing on the sale of the house; taking Charlie to see Grandma and Grandpa (they loved it), flying back to Orlando, attending a 3 day fraud conference, and getting back to work after being gone 1 1/2 weeks.

I didn't get to do hardly anything I wanted to in KC. It took so long for the packers to pack our house that I was exhausted by the end of the day. Then, the movers were not the best in the world, and also took forever, managing to leave a ladder for Charlie's swingset in the yard. I made it to the comedy club one night, completely exhausted, but I was bound and determined to do something fun during the week. I missed hanging out with Pete, which I feel really bad about. I'll have to make it up to him if he makes it down here to Orlando.

This weekend, Vika, our translator in Russia, will be here in Orlando, so we're taking her to the parks. It should be fun, and she's dying to see Charlie, since she hasn't seen him since we left Russia.

So, now, we're officially homeless for the next couple of weeks, and then, the stress starts again, with moving into the new house! Here are a couple of photos from the sellers page (not our furniture our decorations).

Our New Home!

We're very excited. We made an offer on this house, got a counter, made a counter, and now, they have accepted. So, we will be closing on this beautiful home in the Lake Nona area of Southeast Orlando on August 1.

It's very funny. Kim had been checking the internet, and sent me this house months ago. Then, on my own, I had found the house while driving around the neighborhoods by Lake Nona, and had gone in during an open house. We both truly loved this house (which we nicknamed "Miller's House", after Miller, the golden lab who lives there right now).

We found another one that was a bit larger, but they wouldn't dicker on the price, so we came back to this one. The neighborhood is amazing, with paver sidewalks and driveways, perfect landscaping, and a wonderful swimming pool/tot lot/ basketball court. This gated subdivision has everyything on up to million dollar homes. The house has a huge backyard (by Central Florida standards), which the owner referred to as a "3 beer yard". Plus, it's decorated wonderfully, so there is minimal re-painting and re-decorating needed.

We're very excited to get out of the apartment and into a real house!

Maybe that's Kramer was saying????

Tonight, Charlie, Kim and I went to Popeye's for a chicken dinner. The Popeye's we went to is on Orange Blossom Trail, which is a diverse ethnic area in South Orange County.

When we sat down, I noticed someone had left a nickle on the table. After we got done eating, I took the nickel and gave it to Charlie, and told him it was a nickel. He was very excited and started saying, "Nickel Nickel Nickel Nickel Nickel".

Unfortunatley, when Charlie says Nickel, it doesn't come out quite right. Let's just say that the "ck" part comes out closer to a "g" sound, and the "l" on the end is left off. And no amount of coaching changed his pronunciation.

Needless to say, we hightailed out of Popeye's. Thankfully, the restaurant was mostly empty, and no one had heard him. In the car, I started calling the coin "five cents", which seemed to please Charlie enough that he stopped saying nickel.

And there ends the tail of how Charlie almost got us killed in Orlando.

A couple of quick photos

Our internet access in the condo is sketchy at best, but I was able to upload these photos, and more are coming.

Mommy and Charlie playing with his new Caterpeller Remote Control Dump Truck!
(I think he liked it a little bit).
The popular Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Cake!
Our little catalog model!
The first house we put an offer on decided they didn't want to budge on price. They must think it's a seller's market, and that there are no houses for sale. So, we told them to enjoy making their large interest payment each month, and moved on. We have an offer in on another house. Hopefully, soon, we'll be out of the condo and into our own place.

As NASA would say, we are holding!

Not too much to report. We are kinda in a holding pattern, waiting to buy a house. We were all set to put an offer in on a very nice 3 bedroom home in a very ritzy part of the Lake Nona area, when a 4 bedroom home we had looked at dropped their price to the same amount. So, we've been working on the 4 bedroom home. But, so far, they have steadfastly refused to dicker with us (Should I dicker???)

So, we put in another offer today and are waiting to hear. It's a very nice house, with a screen in lanai, and hardwood floors. A lot of houses down here have what look like batting cages on the back. Apparently, they are for the bugs. In winter, you just open your house up and live on the porch. Sounds like fun.

So, it's just waiting time. Everything else is going good. Charlie likes his daycare ("Tutortime, Yay!") He loves going to the pool ("In the pool, COOL!") although he still can't swim. He sinks like a rock, but daddy is there to pull him out each time. It doesn't stop him from jumping in again. Yesterday, daddy forgot sunscreen, so there is no pool today. My burn line is funny, with it stopping halfway on my arm.

Kim is enjoying her job. She discovered a nearby business that has a good cafeteria, and gives CCCI people a discount. Everyone at work has been nice, and she is making some new friends.

Yesterday was a trip to EPCOT, for dinner at the Germany pavilion and watching "IllumiNations", the firework/lazer/flame/fountain extravaganza. Of course, Charlie loved it. It really is an amazing show.

I'll try to post some photos tonight to catch everyone up on what is going on.
